Anxiety & Stress

Are you someone who suffers from anxiety and stress?

Most people experience stress and anxiety at some point in their lives. Stress can appear when your brain and body has demands placed on it, sometimes there are multiple demands from lots of different areas all competing with each other and overloading the system.  These feelings can be triggered by an event that makes you feel frustrated or nervous either past or present.  In the short-term stress and anxiety is not always bad and it’s the body’s way of helping you overcome a challenging situation but long-term stresses can impact your health and wellbeing causing physical, psychological and emotional symptoms.

Common stressors include;
– moving to a new house,
– job interview or
– starting a new job,
– illness or injury,
– death of a friend or family member,
– getting married/divorced
– and having a baby.
Some prescription and non-prescription drugs can also trigger symptoms.

People experiencing long term anxiety may be suffering from one of several disorders;

  • Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) characterised by uncontrollable worrying.
  • Panic disorder is a condition that causes panic attacks.
  • Post-Traumatic stress disorder (PSTD) is a condition that causes flashbacks to past traumatic experiences
  • Social Phobia is a condition that causes feelings of intense anxiety when interacting with others
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a condition that causes repetitive thoughts and actions that can feel almost ritualistic.
